Laurenţiu Dimişcă – A Modern Spirit

Amongst so many beautiful things offered to the people from Bacău during the I. L. Caragiale symposium, the Cultural Center George Apostu gave us the opportunity to encounter the creation of an young artist from Piatra-Neamţ about whose reputation I have found out some time ago but never seen a personal exhibition. The surprise was full and it generated a great deal of satisfactions especially because the artist showed us his entire superb originality, being in the same time resolute and clear in discourse and plastic solutions. The first and definitive impression is connected with an extension of an inciting artistic palpitation by the quality of vision and perfectly motivated artistic route, without any hesitation or language concession. The great chromatic show engage the watcher in a spontaneous and permanent partnership.

The glance runs fast from one work to another and goes in different labyrinths, even though on a global reading can learns shapes and borders, shocking accents or anecdotic zones. The monumentality seems to be only the outcome of an attitude based on a manner of thinking the compositions as a whole, where the shapes from the structure of the images have the graphic and chromatic flavor of a fairy tale. Practically, the images have only the apparently painting autonomy, because they get in an order pushed up to the infinity. We can say that the scenes are thought like some giants frescos from which the eternal story of the world emerges and we can synthesize it in the Eminescian image:

“It was when it has not been seen, now we see it and there is not…”

Creative spirit, Laurenţiu Dimişcă express a real intellectual mobility, based on the disposability for the playful and imaginary world. Often monumental, with the connection with the world of the great Mexican mural painters, Laurenţiu Dimişcă glosses on different themes, being convincing and attaching every time. The chromatic freshness of the acrylic colors becomes the sign of bold youth free from possible traps of some pre-existing models. The imaginary helps him to see, the handyness to convince. The treatment of the surfaces has the exactitude of the unespected and the fantasy of an inspired man.

That’s why the images seem a real graphic-chromatic language, new and provoking for a sleepy stage of the receivership. That’s why the impression of spontaneity and vividness of the internal tension and palpitation. Sometimes the images from the painting-object have the flavor of a humorous comment so the themes become easier to approach and more suprising.(It’s time for love, Love road, About me, Discussion etc.)

The general structure lives and gets motivated through the idea’s substance and substantiates through the pleasure given by the spicy detail. The couple theme, love theme lead to delicious comments in the way in which the eye theme recalls the universe of the humorous story teller, Ion Creangă. Laurenţiu Dimişcă has the vanity of the unique one and what he offers us and exhibits at the art fares, domestic or international ones, has the chance to rise the interest and to convince. His biological and artistic youth is enough reason to predict an exceptional career. More, it has to be revealed the intelligent market which shows that he knows what he’s worth and how to negotiate this kind of qualities. Fit as an attitude in any competition, the painter knows that the times when the artists were waiting with resignation the customers or some providential Mecena, have gone. He has, in other words, a perfectly adjusted to his time behavior and no complex of the not understand provincial. I confess a warm intellectual complicity with such an artist, his personal qualities confirming my statement that his name is not about the moment’s hazard but the time which shall come.

Laurenţiu doesn’t make a purpose from modernity and that’s why he doesn’t forget that the return to the painting proves that many post-modern artists give up to the destruction without reasoning, to the plastic organising, artistic emotions and esthetic common sense.
